Stuart obtained his BA in Human Movement Sciences from Rand Afrikaans University in 2004, followed by an Honours degree in Sport Science from the University of Johannesburg in 2005. He completed his studies with an Honours degree in Biokinetics from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2006.

After completing his internship in 2007 at the Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Johannesburg and the NMMU Biokinetics and High Performance Centre in Port Elizabeth, Stuart travelled to Switzerland and the United Kingdom to pursue his goal of playing top-level sport. During this time, he worked as a biokineticist and sport scientist at health studios and high-performance centres in Geneva and London between 2008 and 2010.

In August 2010, Stuart opened Stuart McDade Biokineticists, which now operates from Netcare Waterfall City Hospital in Midrand and the Premier Health Centre in Blairgowrie. In 2011, he accompanied the South African women’s hockey team as their biokineticist on European tours in preparation for the 2012 London Olympic Games. His years of experience in the field have also seen him work with Supersport United Football Club, the South African men’s and women’s hockey teams, as well as elite triathletes, Ironman competitors, runners and professional cyclists. He has a keen interest in disabled athletes and has worked with various Paralympic competitors, including gold medalists at international games.

Alongside sports rehabilitation and athlete performance enhancement, Stuart has a passion for orthopaedic rehabilitation, post-operative recovery, chronic disease management, neurological rehabilitation, children’s biokinetics, lower back rehabilitation and postural correction, with a particular interest in knee injuries.

Stuart is an avid sportsman himself. He has represented Gauteng and Eastern Province, as well as various national league teams overseas in hockey. He also represented the South African students team in 2006 and has competed at Masters Hockey World Cups since 2018. Beyond hockey, he has completed the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon and the 94.7 Cycle Challenge.

In 2017, Stuart shifted the focus of his practice towards isokinetic testing and evaluation using advanced, highly technical equipment that remains among the leading muscle and joint testing systems worldwide. After investing in two of these machines, he has seen measurable improvements in rehabilitation outcomes, enabling patients to return to activity more quickly than with traditional testing protocols.

In 2022, Stuart was registered as an Honorary Associate Lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand in the Division of Sports and Exercise Medicine within the School of Clinical Medicine.
